Survey of Psychic Abilities:

Now that we have discussed the reason why one would want to obtain psychic impressions and some of the tools available to aid in interpreting through your psychic senses, it is time to discuss the different psychic abilities one might display.  In daily life we deal with intuition which is a strong feeling, instinct, or gut reaction to a person or situation.  Everyone has intuitive feelings that mainly come through as unclear impressions rather than precise insights.  Psychic ability is the refined use of intuition.  Psychic insight is more active and precise because it requires you to focus your intuition without the distracting clutter of random thoughts.  You have to train yourself to quiet your mind.  This requires practice, training, and trust in your abilities.

Traditional psychic development texts will lump all psychic abilities into one of four major categories listed below.

1. Telepathy – the ability to communicate (send and receive thoughts) using the psychic senses
2. Precognition – the ability to gather information about future events or thoughts
3. Psychokinesis – the ability to influence a physical object or event by thought alone
4. Clairvoyance – the ability to acquire knowledge of an object or event through the psychic senses

These abilities require the use of several of the five psychic senses and can not utilize the physical senses.  Please note that clairvoyance was defined as a psychic ability before it was understood that its definition as such also falls under the telepathy category since information about an event or object can be sent through thought.  It has only been since the early 1970s that clairvoyance has been redefined as the psychic sense of sight.  As humanity expands its knowledge of our psychic potential, new psychic abilities are being defined and explored.  Based on this, traditional psychic abilities should be redefined to include recently developed abilities.  Here are the broad psychic topics followed by a description of the psychic abilities listed.  All of the psychic abilities mentioned here have extensive courses available within Institute for Psychic & Paranormal Research.

1. Astral projection – the ability to leave one’s body and travel to other places and dimensions

2. Energy Interaction – the ability to read and interact with the energy of an object or organism

3. Psychokinesis – the ability to influence a physical object or event by thought alone

4. Telepathy – the ability to communicate using the psychic senses with other physical organisms and beings from other dimensions

5. Time Knowledge – the ability to see events in other time dimensions (past or future)
